Local Products Lead Charge Past Eagles in Final Preseason Tune-Up
LOUDONVILLE, NY – Junior Ahniysha Jackson and sophomore Valencia Fontenelle-Posson led the Siena Women’s Basketball team in their final preseason tune-up of the year, as they defeated the Post University Eagles by a final score of 85-43 at the UHY Center.
Fontenelle-Posson tossed in a team-high 17 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field, which included a pair of three pointers. Jackson was equally as good from behind the stripe, as 12 of her 14 points came from behind the arc. Sophomore Anajah Brown was solid in the post with 11 points, seven rebounds, five steals, and a pair of blocks. Freshman Elisa Mevius impressed with eight points, six assists, and four steals.
Despite a slow start as Post led 20-18 after one quarter, the Saints picked up the pace in the second quarter as Jackson and Fontenelle-Posson each found their groove. The Saints defense also turned up, turning the Eagles over 31 times over the game. Siena tossed the ball around on offense, assisting on 21 of 30 field goals.
Siena outscored Post 67-23 over the final three quarters to seal the win. Siena took advantage of the fast break, outscoring the Eagles 18-0 in that department. The Green and Gold also doubled up Post in the post, winning the paint battle 36-18.
Kiara Eubanks led Post with 11 points and seven rebounds, while Tyree Allen and Lauren Murphy each scored six for the Eagles. Post was held to 33.3 percent shooting from the floor, including just 22.2 percent from long distance.
The Saints return to action Thursday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. when they open their regular season against New Hampshire at the UHY Center.
