Siena Women’s Basketball Now Five-For-Five in MAAC Weekly Rookie Honors

LOUDONVILLE, NY – It’s been death, taxes and Siena Women’s Basketball capturing MAAC Rookie of the Week honors to begin the 2022-23 season thus far. Freshman Teresa Seppala became the team’s latest award recipient Monday afternoon, capturing her second MAAC Rookie of the Week honor of the year.

The Tampere, Finland native averaged 11 points and six rebounds over two contests last week, helping the Saints to non-conference victories after Binghamton and Colgate. The freshman guard went for seven points and four boards on Monday against Binghamton, and added a season-best tying 15 points and eight rebounds at Colgate on Saturday with three three-pointers. Seppala shot 50 percent (7-14) from the field and added four assists, three steals, and a block.

Seppala previously took home MAAC Rookie of the Week honors on November 21 and November 28, while classmate Elisa Mevius was honored with the award on November 14, November 28, and December 5. Siena has now earned both five MAAC weekly awards and four MAAC Rookie of the Week honors in a single season since the 2014-15 season, when it captured 13 total weekly honors and then-freshman Margot Hetzke won MAAC Rookie of Week accolades nine times.

Siena continues a season-long four-game road trip on Monday, December 19, when it kicks off MAAC play at new league member Mount St. Mary’s in Emmitsburg, Maryland at 7 PM.
